Heartical Elevation
This production was put together by the Ministry of Culture and Youth Affairs and The Gathering.
The main idea and purpose for having Heartical Elevation was to do something positive for the youths in the Laventille Community, with a view to keeping God in everything. A lot of people have the misconception that most of crimes taking place in the country to date, are committed by most Laventille residents. This is in fact just a myth. Black, unemployed youths are being targeted and used as scapegoats, to shield the real culprits behind the drug and gun smuggling. It does not take a Degree in Rocket Science to know that Laventille youths do not have enough food for their offsprings, let alone ship drugs intoTrinidad and Tobago. Don’t misunderstand me. Drugs and violence is everywhere including Laventille. As in everything else, we always highlight the negative. Surely I hope this would change some day.
Heartical Elevation was a success with a huge turn out. This event was held at the Laventille Technology and Continuing Education Centre on the 4/11/05 at 7 p.m. Hosted by The Gathering’s Ras Iton, it was a night of conscious arts and entertainment featuring performances from local drama and modern dance groups. There was also poetry by Muhammad and Minis3’s Gamma, acoustic sounds from Linton, Malik and Mr.King with the big song “Laventille�. Gitta Dan accompanied by his live band was also present.
With the overwhelming response from the people in the Laventille Community towards this event, be on the look out for Heartical Elevation II.
